All great thoughts are conceived while walking…yes! I walk somewhere between 15 and 20 miles every week. I mostly walk the same route and embrace the stale and familiar while seeking out nuggets of new.
When we walk we tend to smile and nod to the people we walk by. On public transportation we do not. I just read the book, Iona Iverson's Rules For Commuting. It's a rule that nobody ever talks to strangers on a train. But this story supposes they did.
I love how you tell us all that you accomplish in your head on a walk. You are an inspiration to get out and walk.
I have a Border Collie so I walk ALOT! I stick to mountains and forests mainly, and I’m lucky that where I live I have both. But what we also have is a ton of rain. Like right now, freezing rain at home for days on end...there are so many days I don’t wanna go out, but I have to, because...Nala. Yet even when I don’t feel like it, those walks often-usually-end up being the best part of my day. They say that walking in unfamiliar territory without a map is one of the best ways to prevent, or mitigate the effects of dementia. Since that runs in my family, I do sometimes get lost out there, in the woods, but I always find my way back
What a great piece. I loved all of it. This made me laught out loud: “What if this is a dream?” I said. “What if our alarm clocks are going off and we’re about to wake up?”
Loved this piece. I can walk forever in a foreign city. It's like levitating. Walking at home is a different animal altogether :)
This is so beautifully put. I couldn't agree more. Levitating! I love that!

I like the idea of setting mileage goals!

Wow! Love the essay! And the thoughts. It teaches me how to be grateful, against my will :).
Oh, thank you!!

I love the last two lines of this comment! Like a mini essay!
This was a lovely read and one that I could relate to! My preferred modes of transportation are walking and taking the train, when travelling.
I love the train, too. The window view. Hypnotic.

Thank you and miss you.
My most favorite activity is walking the streets of a city in a foreign country. The novelty never gets old! Thanks for the read.
Definitely never gets old. :)
This is such a beautifully written piece and a proper ode to walking. I really enjoyed it, thank you so much.
Oh, thank you! xx
