OMG, I read this a month ago and am seeing now that I forgot to comment on it because I came across what you’d written about Alice McDermott’s “That Night” (a book I read ages ago and absolutely loved and used in my writing classes) and I after reading your article I went to see if I still had it on my bookshelves, which I do, thankfully, and from there started to read it again….you get the idea.
